The Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford is seeking applications for the post of Associate Professor of Statistics. The successful candidate will also be appointed to a Lecturership at Merton College. Statistics at Oxford is reaping the benefits of relocation to a prominent and recently-renovated building in the heart of the city, which has enhanced our vibrant research environment and provides state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities. Collaborations around the University, the country and internationally are flourishing and we were ranked first in the UK in the 2014 REF exercise as part of the Mathematical Sciences submission. To be successful you will need to hold a doctorate in Statistics or a related subject, and to have the potential to become a leader in your field. You’ll bring the skills and enthusiasm to lecture at undergraduate and graduate level, over a wide range of topics within Statistics, and to supervise students. You’ll be expected to conduct and publish original research, secure research funding and manage projects, and engage in knowledge transfer activities. We envisage a wide range of applicants and therefore encourage early and mid-career academics to apply in particular.

If appointed you will be based at the Department of Statistics, 24–29 St Giles’, Oxford, OX1 3LB, and at Merton College, Merton Street, Oxford OX1 4JD.

Merton College is one of the oldest colleges in Oxford and has a strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in a thriving and energetic intellectual community, and to interact productively with Fellows at Merton - both with mathematicians such as Professor Ulrike Tillmann and Professor Radek Erban, and with those Fellows in other disciplines, particularly Biology and Biochemistry, whose research has a strong statistical component. The post brings full membership of the Senior Common Room. Salary will be on a scale from £46,336 p.a. plus additional benefits including start-up funding, and college benefits as detailed in the job description. An allowance of £2,700 p.a. would be payable upon award of Full Professor title.
