The School wishes to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative individual to the role of Lecturer in Health Data Sciences to grow capacity and deliver high-quality research. You will use and develop novel methodologies to extract information from medical data (such as health records, genomics, proteomics and medical images) and use it to improve healthcare by helping to understand, diagnose, monitor or treat disease. It is expected that research will be disseminated widely and will have a significant impact on disease understanding, diagnosis, treatment or management. The new funding will be sought to maintain and grow self-sustaining research. You will also be expected to contribute to and develop undergraduate teaching, postgraduate teaching and supervision and professional training as well as undertake any associated management and administrative duties.

You will join an engaged data science community at Manchester with of over 400 investigators working across the University in different disciplines allied to data sciences and connected through the University’s Data Science Institute. Our expertise covers the complete data science life-cycle: from information management, through analytics, to practical applications; we believe this deeply multidisciplinary approach is one of the distinctive features of data science at Manchester. Within the Division of Informatics, Imaging and Data Sciences, where this post will be based, staff, cover a broad spectrum of health data sciences research including medical and biological imaging, health informatics and aspects of systems biology as well as developing new methodologies. In 2018, Manchester will be joining The Alan Turing Institute the UK’s national institute for data science, so that researchers at Manchester will have the opportunity to contribute to or lead Turing research programmes.

You should have a PhD (or equivalent) in a data sciences related field, a sustained track record of authorship of papers in high-quality peer-reviewed conferences and journals, the experience of contributing to securing grant funding and an emerging track record of grants and/or fellowships. Demonstrable ability to engage with inter-disciplinary research in fields related to health data science is essential.
