Position Title: Postdoctoral Research Associate

Position Description: A postdoctoral research position is available in areas of Bayesian analysis, network analysis, and statistical machine learning in the Department of Statistics at the University of Washington. The position will also be affiliated with the Center for the Statistics and the Social Sciences at the University of Washington and involve strong collaborations with faculty in the Department of Biostatistics. This is a two-year position, subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

The University of Washington Department of Statistics is an internationally recognized leader in statistical science research with 21 faculty members and numerous adjust and affiliate faculty. The Center for Statistics and the Social Sciences is the first center in the nation devoted to the interface between statistics and the social sciences through interdisciplinary research and through teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The center has five core faculty and 54 faculty affiliates in departments throughout the university.

Opportunities for collaborations are also available with researchers in the departments of Biostatistics, Computer Science, and Genome Sciences at the University of Washington.

Research topics include, but are not limited to:
1) Developing statistical methodology and theory for inferring structure in high dimensional, partially observed dynamic graphs.

2) Developing new methodology and theory for incorporating network information in multiple collaborative social science projects.

Applications are also welcomed from applicants interested in exploring other areas of research in the intersection of statistical machine learning, Bayesian analysis, complex network theory, and systems biology.

Position Qualifications: The successful candidate should have completed a Ph.D. (or be on track to complete by December 2014) in statistics, computer science or related field and possess a strong record of research in statistics, computer science, machine learning, and/or social/complex networks, evidenced by high quality publications, as well as good communication and team work skills, and be able to lead research and develop ideas independently. Strong background in statistics/math and good programming skills are highly desirable.
