Statistical geneticists positions at Genomics plc

The use of extensive genetic information will transform healthcare over the next decade. Many of the key challenges are statistical: making sense of the vast amounts of data being generated, including DNA sequences linked to patient medical records.

To help tackle these problems at scale, four leading statistical geneticists at the University of Oxford, Peter Donnelly, Gil McVean, Gerton Lunter, and Chris Spencer have founded a company, Genomics plc. Following a substantial funding round the company is looking to grow from its current position of 20+ employees.

Genomics is seeking talented junior and senior statistical geneticists to join our analytics team. The successful candidate will develop and apply statistical methods to link genomics data with health-related outcomes and phenotypes. As part of Genomics, you will work with leading scientists in statistical genomics, and a talented software and database development team, to develop cutting-edge tools in genome analytics.

You should have proven experience of working with large datasets and be able to carry out careful analyses. Your skill set will allow you to summarize and visualize large datasets to look for patterns of association, or potential biases. As part of our scientific team you should be able both to apply standard statistical approaches, and to contribute to the development of novel computational tools. You will be able to discuss and explain complex ideas to both specialists and non-specialists.

The positions are suitable for individuals with strong numerical background, preferably statistics, and with experience in genetics or genomics. We would also consider strong statistical candidates interested in moving into genetics applications. If you enjoy thinking creatively about challenging statistical problems in an applied clinical and health care setting, this job might be for you.
